Lampasas River Watershed Partnership meeting Oct. 25 in Lampasas

LAMPASAS – Residents interested in the Lampasas River Watershed Protection Plan are invited to the Lampasas River Watershed Partnership meeting on Oct. 25.

The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building, 1793 U.S. Highway 281 in Lampasas. It is hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Research.

Registration will be at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting at 6 p.m.

“This meeting will address a number of projects relating to the Lampasas River, including updates about efforts to map existing on-site sewage systems and our next steps in addressing pollutant contributions from potentially failing systems,” said meeting host Lisa Prcin, AgriLife Research associate and Lampasas River watershed coordinator.

The agenda includes a discussion on the status of the Lampasas River and its tributaries on the recently released 2016 Draft Texas Integrated Report of Surface Water Quality for the Clean Water Act Sections 305(b) and 303(d). Most notably, the addition of a segment of Sulphur Creek has been identified as not meeting state standards for contact recreation to the list of impaired waterbodies.

There will also be an update about upcoming educational programs.

“The partnership is a voluntary group of local stakeholders that have been working to improve and protect the water quality in the Lampasas River watershed,” Prcin said. “We are able to facilitate the partnership thanks to program funding provided through a Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.”
