‘Last chance’ CEU opportunities offered Jan. 22-23 in Austin

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present two “last chance” opportunities Jan. 22-23 in Austin for private pesticide, commercial and non-commercial applicator license holders seeking Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units.

Both programs will be from 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m. in Building B of the Travis County East Service Center, 6011 Blue Bluff Road. Registration will be at 7:15 a.m. and six CEUs will be offered each day.

Regular registration is $60, and the normal registration deadline for both programs is Jan. 18. Late registration for the Jan. 22 program is $75, with a deadline of Jan. 21. Late registration for the Jan. 23 program is $75, with a deadline of Jan. 22. Day-of registration is $85. Registration cost includes beverages, snacks and lunch. Payment is by credit card, check or money order only.

The programs also offer International Society of Arboriculture CEUs and Texas Nursery and Landscape Association CEUs. Coordinators are also in the process of obtaining TDA approval for CEUs for structural pest control licensees.

“The ISA has approved four CEUs — two for Jan. 22 and two for Jan. 23,” said Dr. Noel Troxclair, AgriLife Extension agent, Travis County. “And the TNLA has approved six CEUs for each day.”

The Jan. 22 program is designed for agricultural producers and will offer three TDA general, one integrated pest management and two laws and regulations CEUs.

Topics include pesticide and pesticide container disposal, using technology with pesticides, identifying wildlife damage, Texas pesticide laws and regulations, toxic plants of the Hill Country, winter and spring brush control, and insect management in small grains and forages.

The Jan.23 program is geared toward non-agricultural license holders, and will offer four TDA general, one integrated pest management and one laws and regulations CEUs.

Topics include landscape pest management, applying herbicides for invasive brush control, techniques for minimizing pest pressures in turf, oak wilt and other important tree diseases, turf diseases and their management, TDA laws and regulations, and pesticide licensing.
