COLLEGE STATION – The ecology and evolutionary biology program of Texas A&M University will host Darwin Day 2019- a free, interactive, educational event featuring live animals, museum specimens, science demonstrations, games, prizes, cupcakes and art contests for children and adults.

The event will be from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the VENI Building, 660 Raymond Stotzer Parkway. Dr.

Gil Rosenthal, professor of biology at Texas A&M, will give the event’s keynote address at 5:30 p.m. Parking is free after 5 p.m. in Lot 24.

Darwin Day is a hands-on science event for kids and adults showcasing evolutionary research and biodiversity conservation initiatives at Texas A&M and beyond. Attendees can interact with live snakes, tortoises, bats, skunks, fish, owls and other critters large and small, as well as learn about local plants and inspect museum specimens.

In addition to the many interactive booths, children can also participate in educational games and art contests for prizes. Adults are also invited to display their own natural history-themed artwork of any medium in a separate art contest.
