UVALDE – The Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Uvalde will hold a Vegetable and Wheat Spring Field Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10.
The event is free and open to area producers and the public. Lunch is complimentary courtesy of First State Bank of Uvalde.
The program will offer two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general and one integrated pest management.

The keynote speaker at the field day will be Dante Galeazzi, CEO and president of the Texas International Produce Association in Mission, who will present on understanding fresh produce sales and markets.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Alejandro Castillo, associate professor in Texas A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College Station, who will present on current issues in produce safety.
The field day will include a hands-on tomato-grafting workshop. Topics will include hydroponic and high-tunnel production, organic tests, soil health, melons, artichokes, peppers, onions, tomatoes and winter wheat.
“The field day will address issues and opportunities for producers throughout the region and introduce them to some of the latest applied research and methods for enhancing production and improving their bottom line,” said center director Dr. Daniel Leskovar, also a vegetable physiologist.
Field day sponsors include the Texas Department of Agriculture, Jain Irrigation, JH Biotech, KBW Supply, Netafin USA and Country Boy Organics.
