Pesticide Management Workshop set Nov. 6 in Fort Stockton

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present a Pesticide Management Workshop on Nov. 6 in Fort Stockton.

The event will start at 8 a.m. at the Pecos County Civic Center at 1674 Airport Drive. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and lunch is included. It will conclude at 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $40 at the door or $35 if paid by Oct. 28. There will be five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available for private applicator and non-commercial permit holders — two general, one integrated pest management, one drift, and one laws and regulations.

“This will be a detailed overview that will be helpful for all those who deal with pesticides,” said Raymond Quigg, AgriLife Extension agent for Upton County. “This is a great way to spend half a day learning the latest laws, techniques, testing methods and control options.”

Scheduled topics and speakers include:

• Basic Weed Control Strategies for Crops and Landscape – Calvin Trostle, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist, Lubbock.
• General Range Herbicides with Use of Drift Management Aids – Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension rangeland specialist, San Angelo.
• Laws and Regulations – Cory Pence, Texas Department of Agriculture regional training specialist, Austin.
• Soil and Water Testing for Landscapes – Trostle.
• Maintenance In and Around Public Parks: Mowing, Spraying and Pruning – Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent, San Angelo.
