From the Ground Up Conference offered for health professionals Jan. 14

From the Ground Up – Connecting Agriculture & Health is scheduled for Jan. 14 at the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave. in Waco.

The conference, which will be held from 8:50 a.m. to 4 p.m., is for health professionals, registered dieticians, registered nurses, educators and students.

Cost is $50 by Jan. 8 and $25 for enrolled full-time students. Lunch is included with registration.

“We have an excellent panel of presenters and the topics are relevant to many of the issues facing consumers today,” said Dana Tarter, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service regional program leader, Vernon. “The presentations we have planned will especially be of interest to those who are working in the health services or health education areas.”

Application has been made for continuing education units for registered dieticians and certified health specialists. Teachers will also be provided continuing education units. All other professionals will be provided five clock hours of education.

–    Culinary Medicine: Using Mediterranean Diet Principles to Promote Healthy Eating and Improved Health Outcomes, Ann VanBeber, Ph.D., RD, LD, Texas Christian University.

–  Addressing the Food and Nutrition Needs of Our Growing Population, Dan Hale, Ph.D., associate director, AgriLife Extension Service, College Station.

–   More Than Milk, Connecting the Dairy Farm with the Consumer, Joann Knox, Dairy Max Inc., Grand Prairie.

–   Texas Department of Agriculture Programs and Initiatives, Helenka Ostrum, TDA specialist, Austin.

–   Technology in Present Day Farm Stewardship, Rodney Schronk, Schronk Agricultural Joint Venture, Hillsboro.
