Hale, Swisher crop conference set Jan. 23 in Plainview

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Hale/Swisher Crops Conference will be held on Jan. 23 at the Ollie Liner Center, 2000 S. Columbia St. in Plainview.

The cost is $20, and lunch is included. RSVP to Audrey Gloyna at audrey.gloyna@ag.tamu.edu or 806-291-5267 by Jan. 13. 

Registration will start at 8 a.m., and the event will run until 4:30 p.m. 

There will be Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units offered – one general, one drift and one laws and regulations. For certified crop advisers, there will be six continuing education units available – three crop management, two integrated pest management and one professional development.

Topics and speakers are as follows:

— Bacillus Thuringiensis, BT, and Row Crop Integrated Pest Management Update – Blayne Reed, AgriLife Extension agent for integrated pest management, Hale and Swisher counties.

— Managing Grain Crop Inputs – Jourdan Bell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.

— Livestock and Crop Market Update – Justin Benavidez, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Amarillo.

— Hale County Noxious Weed – Michael Harrell, Hale County Noxious Weed Control, Plainview.

— Advancements in Weed Science – Peter Dotray, Ph.D.,  AgriLife Extension weed specialist, Lubbock.

— Cotton Variety and Other Cotton Advancements – Murilo Maeda, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension cotton specialist, Lubbock.

— Making Effective Pesticide Applications – Andy Hart, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Hale County, and John Villalba, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Swisher County.

— Auxin Training – Drew Dunlap, AgriLife Extension agronomy agent, Hale, Castro and Lamb counties.
