The Walk Across Texas! online physical activity program will kick off Oct. 4 in Lubbock.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program is free and designed to help Texans become more active by walking the equivalent of the width of Texas– 832 miles.
“You can walk as a team, individually, outside, at a mall, at a grocery store or a gym — any way that fits your schedule and lifestyle,” said Cory Edwards, AgriLife Extension Better Living for Texans agent, Lubbock. “Keep track of your team’s miles over an eight-week period to see if together you can go the equivalent of the number of miles it would take to walk across the state.”
Visit https://tx.ag/LubbockWAT to register and create or join a team. To participate in the Lubbock league, use code watL-210915-74261 when registering online. Contact Edwards with questions or registration needs at 806-775-1740.
Fun, fitness for all
Participants may register to walk with a team of friends, family members, coworkers or classmates. Each team may have up to eight members, with one serving as a team captain. Physical activities are logged as “miles walked” and contribute toward a team’s mileage total.
“Everyone is encouraged to take part in the Walk Across Texas! challenge, no matter your fitness level,” Edwards said. “We encourage all to sign up and join a community that’s connected through a positive journey towards a common goal of becoming heathier.”
The AgriLife Extension office in Lubbock will host a variety of virtual program support activities during the two-month long event.
