Warrior Care Recovery Coordination Program webinar slated for Oct. 26

Focus will be on non-medical support for injured military, recovery care coordinators

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in collaboration with the Military Families Learning Network, will present an online professional development program dedicated to supporting wounded warriors, their family and caregivers on Oct. 26.

About the Warrior Care program

The Warrior Care Recovery Care Coordination Program provides resource information and tools for providers who support wounded, ill and injured populations, along with caregivers and their families.

“The program provides support to recovery care coordinators and helps them get the non-medical support they need to enhance their quality of life,” said Rachel Brauner, AgriLife Extension program specialist – military programs.

The program presenter will be Sandra Mason, director for the Recovery Coordination Program of the Defense Health Agency, who has been a part of the program since July 2008. 

“Ms. Mason brings a wealth of knowledge to the program,” Brauner said. “She has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare arena as a skilled professional social worker, military officer and administrator.”

Mason has an extensive background in case management, which includes working with a broad spectrum of populations. She also served as personnel management officer and presiding officer for the Physical Evaluation Board at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Mason also has experience as a liaison for severely injured soldiers, linking them to existing services as a counselor advocate at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Continuing education credits

Continuing education credits from the webinar will be offered in the areas of:

• Social work, licensed professional counselor, licensed marriage and family therapist – one continuing education credit from the University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work for credentialed and licensed professionals.
• Case managers – submitted to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board-certified case managers with one clock hour of credit.
• Board certified patient advocates – This program has been pre-approved by the Patient Advocate Certification Board to provide one continuing education contact hour to BCPAs.
• Certified family life educators – one continuing education credit.

Certificates of completion are available for participants interested in receiving training hours.
