The fifth annual Central Texas Vines and Wines program will be held on May 24 at the East of West Vineyard at 536 Cervenka Road, West.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event is presented by the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County and multiple AgriLife Extension county committees. The Justin Mechell family will be hosting and focusing on vineyard establishment.
The event will start with onsite registration at 8:30 a.m. An advance RSVP is required by contacting the McLennan office at 254-757-5180 or emailing to candace.chapman@ag.tamu.edu.
The cost is $35, and breakfast and a steak lunch will be provided during the program. One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit in integrated pest management is available.
“There is a lot of local interest in vineyards,” said Shane McLellan, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for McLennan County. “This program is targeting people who want to plant wine grape vines.”
He said this will be a firsthand look at “how to” be successful as a new grower.
