‘Tree Clinic: Triage or Chainsaw’ to offer homeowners advice on Nov. 8 in Wichita Falls

Learn what to do with freeze-, drought-affected trees

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Wichita County will host the “Tree Clinic: Triage or Chainsaw” on Nov. 8 at the Midwestern State University Dillard College of Business Administration Building, Room 189, Wichita Falls.

The event will begin with sign-in at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program from 6-8 p.m. There is no charge to attend, but preregistration is requested for planning purposes by calling the AgriLife Extension office at 940-716-8610 or emailing wichita-tx@tamu.edu.

“Trees in our area are really suffering due to prolonged drought and the long-term effects from the record-breaking low temps in 2021,” said David Graf, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Wichita County.

“This clinic will focus on two key topics,” Graf said. “First, what practices can we do to improve tree health. Then, equally important, it will help attendees make informed decisions on whether to attempt to save a tree or remove it because it is a safety hazard or it won’t recover adequately to enhance the landscape or provide adequate shade.”

On the agenda

The guest speaker will be Gareth Harrier, board-certified master arborist and International Society of Arborists-qualified tree risk assessor with Bartlett Tree Experts, Southlake.

The topics to be discussed will be:

— What’s Wrong with My Tree.

— Evaluating Tree Health.

— Tree Care Tips.

— Assessing Tree Risk.
