COLLEGE STATION — Dr. Patricia A. Stokowski, assistant professor of recreation, park and tourism sciences at Texas A&M University, is a recipient of the Eugene M. Kayden Award from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Stokowski’s book “Riches and Regrets: Betting on Gambling in Two Colorado Mountain Towns,” is due this summer from the University Press of Colorado, a consortium of that state’s colleges and universities. Her manuscript received the University Press award for best manuscript in the humanities and social sciences, one of three Kayden awards.
She did much of the research for the book while employed as a research associate at Boulder between 1989 and 1994.
The awards are administered by the University of Colorado and are funded by a gift from deceased Colorado alumnus Eugene Kayden, a Russian emigrant who later became a distinguished scholar of economics but maintained a lifelong interest in Russian translation.
