COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Rodolfo (Rudy) Nayga has received a 2005 International Excellence Award for Faculty from the International Programs Office at Texas A&M University.
Nayga is a professor of agricultural economics for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M.
Awards were given Wednesday to faculty, staff and community members honoring contributions to Texas A&M’s international efforts.
Colleagues say Nayga ‘brings the world to his classroom’ and the award recognizes his work in building international linkages and improving international education.
A member of the European Union Center Management Board, Nayga developed courses to enhance understanding of the European Union. One of the courses, a joint course taught with Wageningen University in the Netherlands, provides master of agribusiness and master of science students at Texas A&M a comparative look at issues affecting food marketing and management systems in the U.S. and European Union.
Nayga has been active in joint projects in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. He is a member of the Center for Consumer and Food Marketing Issues. Nayga was recently in Indonesia to conduct an expert mission regarding consumer education and marketing of irradiated foods for the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency.
He has also worked with the Institute for Pacific Asia, developing Texas A&M’s role in completing the first joint survey of public perceptions of agricultural biotechnology in South Korea. The survey led to new research cooperatives between Texas A&M and top institutes in South Korea.
