BELTON – Texas AgriLife Extension Service educators from Williamson, Falls and Bell counties will present the Wi$eUp Women’s Conference 9 a.m.- noon on Sept. 8 at the Harris Community Center, 401 North Alexander in Belton.
The conference is open to the general public, but topics are designed to address the financial needs and interests of women, said Nancy Granovsky, AgriLife Extension family economics specialist at Texas A&M University in College Station and a conference presenter.
“These days, everyone thinks and worries about money,” Granovsky said. “The recession has been difficult for many families and households, and there’s increasing interest in learning how to stretch dollars and plan for the future.”
She said becoming “financially capable” is vital and especially important for Generation X and Y women.
Conference topics and presenters will be:
— Dealing with a Drop in Income, Granovsky.
— Preparing for the Unexpected, Jason Johnson, AgriLife Extension economist, Stephenville.
— Wise Up Through Effective Management, Jacquelyn White, family and consumer sciences program specialist, Cooperative Extension Program, Prairie View A&M University.
— Money Saving Meals, Madelena Johnson, Rosondra Hartsfield and Sheryl Austin, family and consumer sciences agents from Williamson, Falls and Bell counties.
Coordinators said sponsorship from First National Bank Texas paid for the conference location.
The Wi$eUp conference takes its name from the national curriculum developed by AgriLife Extension under contract with the U.S. Department of Labor – Women’s Bureau, said Granovsky, who served as Wi$eUp project director. Since its inception, more than 20,000 people have participated in the popular program.
