Texas 4-H Center to host ‘Carnival Days’ for senior adults Oct. 22-26

BROWNWOOD – ‘Carnival Days’ is the theme for this year’s Oktoberfest, a camp for adults 50 years old and over at the Texas 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood.

The camp scheduled for Oct. 22-26 is conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and offers fun educational sessions for both men and women, said center director Mark Carroll.

“This year’s Carnival Days theme denotes the atmosphere we strive to maintain throughout the five-day camp,” Carroll said. “This is to be a fun, enjoyable activity, but one of substance with quality information offered that has real value for seniors.

“The program opportunities will include hands-on learning centers, educational sessions and other exciting projects. The educational programs will include a wide array of topics ranging from entomology, finance and crafts to presentations on healthy living and how-to photography instruction.”

Carroll said with fall in the air, the 4-H Center’s expansive grounds will lend itself well to the camp.

“The amenities here are a big part of what makes this camp fun,” he said. “We have an array of both indoor and outdoor activity areas, including lighted tennis courts, horseshoes, billiards, volleyball, shuffleboard and dominoes, as well as card and table games. Basically, something to meet just about any interest or activity level.”

The Texas 4-H Conference Center is 11 miles north of Brownwood on Texas Highway 279 and one mile east on Farm Road 3021. The center encompasses 78 acres of wooded hills framed by a mile of Lake Brownwood shoreline.

Individual registration for dorm-style accommodations is $210 or $250 for a two-person room in the Leadership Lodge. The fee includes all the camp’s meals, refreshments and housing.
