Annual crop production clinics set for Jan. 11-14 in northern Panhandle

AMARILLO – Four Texas Panhandle Crop Production Clinics will be presented Jan. 11-14 by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, DuPont Pioneer and North Plains Groundwater Conservation District.

The meetings will be free and include a meal. Each will start at 9:30 a.m. with registration, and the program begins at 10 a.m. Each will feature concurrent sessions, allowing attendees to pick four of the eight topics offered during the day.

The meetings dates and locations are:

– Dalhart, Jan. 11, First Baptist Church, 1000 E. 16th St.

– Dumas, Jan. 12, Moore County Community Building, 1600 S. Maddox Ave.

– Stratford, Jan. 13, Sherman County Barn, 501 S. Maple St.

– Spearman, Jan. 14, Hansford County Barn, 607 E. Ave. D.

Each meeting also will offer four Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one laws and regulations, one integrated pest management and two general.

The speakers and topics will be:

– Corn Management Strategies in 2016, Mickey Huddleston, Pioneer Hi-Bred field agronomist, Rolla, Kansas.

– Weed Management; Getting Value for Your Herbicide $, Cody Hurdt, certified crop adviser with DuPont Crop Protection, Lubbock.

– Agronomic Best Management Practices, Dave Collins, Collins Agronomics, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

– 3-4-5 Program (Irrigation Capacity) and District Update, Dr. Leon New, Steve Walthour, Kirk Welch, North Plains Groundwater Conservation District, Dumas.

– Nitrogen & Water Management; Pioneer Encirca Services, Gideon Jennings,

Pioneer Hi-Bred Encirca commercial unit lead, Amarillo.

– 2016 Market Outlook, Dr. Steve Amosson, AgriLife Extension, Amarillo.

– Sugarcane Aphid Management in Sorghum, Dr. Ed Bynum and Dr. Robert Bowling,

AgriLife Extension entomologists in Amarillo and Corpus Christi, respectively.

– TDA Laws and Regulation Update, Camilo Garzon, Texas Department of Agriculture inspector, Amarillo.
