AgriLife Extension to hold May wellness workshops in Austin

Programs at Lake Travis UMC to focus on healthy choices, portion control, nutrition fact labels

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Travis County will present three wellness workshops — May 8, 22 and 29 — in the Wesley Room of the Lake Travis United Methodist Church, 1502 Ranch Road 620 North, Austin.

The workshops are free and will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Participants can attend any or all workshops.

Portion Control and MyPlate will be May 8. Impact of Sugar on Your Health: Making Healthier Choices will be May 22. Healthy Choices for Snacking and Breakfast, and Understanding Nutrition Fact Labels will be May 29.

“The objective of these workshops is to provide participants with information and direction on how they can find better health through best practices and making better food choices,” said Sonia Coyle, AgriLife Extension agent for family and community health, Travis County.

Coyle said there will be some physical activity involved in the workshops so attendees should wear comfortable clothing.

Space is limited, so attendees should RSVP as soon as possible to Marlene Anders at Methodist Healthcare Ministries, 512-266-9877 or Manders@mhm.org.
