Broner joins AgriLife Extension in Bexar County as new health, wellness educator

SAN ANTONIO — Jacob Broner has joined the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County as the new health and wellness educator.

Broner, who began Aug. 12, will provide health and wellness educational outreach to residents of Bexar County in conjunction with agency programming.

“Jacob will be a great addition to the agency and has both the educational and professional background necessary to bring our programs to life for both youth and adults,” said Angie Gutierrez, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent. “He has had success in providing health and wellness opportunities to people in different age groups and from diverse backgrounds, so I know he will bring those same abilities to our AgriLife Extension programming.”

Broner earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is certified by the American Heart Association in CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator. He also has first aid certification from the Emergency Care and Safety Institute.

Prior to coming to AgriLife Extension, Broner was a recreation specialist with the city of San Antonio. In this role he created, developed and implemented health and fitness programs for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

“I’m looking forward to taking the AgriLife Extension programming into the community,” Broner said. “I’ve worked mainly on the physical fitness aspects of wellness but am very interested in educational outreach on nutrition and making good decisions about what foods to eat. Fitness and good nutrition work together, and you really can’t have overall health and wellness without both.”

Broner has additional work experience as a health educator at Fort Sam Houston, a football and track coach at St. Anthony’s Catholic High School and St. John Paul II Catholic High School in San Antonio, a health and fitness specialist at The Epilepsy Foundation, and a strength and conditioning coach at Judson High School in San Antonio. He is also a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association.
