The Texas Water Resources Institute, TWRI, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service are offering a free, online education event on septic system maintenance for homeowners in Matagorda County and beyond.
The workshop will be from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 19 on the Zoom platform. To register, contact Taina Frazier, AgriLife Extension administration assistant, Matagorda County, 979-245-4100 or taina.frazier@ag.tamu.edu. A link will be sent out to all registered attendees the week before the event.

While the event is targeted to residents of Matagorda County, other Texas residents interested in learning about septic system maintenance are welcome to attend online.
Presenters will provide a basic understanding of the operational and maintenance activities of a septic system and explain how activities within the home impact septic systems. Topics will include the treatment processes, health and safety considerations, how to inspect, care for and feed the system, and general maintenance procedures.
This program is part of the implementation of the Tres Palacios Creek Watershed Protection Plan, developed by the TWRI and local stakeholders. During the workshop, Nathan Glavy, AgriLife Extension program specialist with the institute based in Bryan-College Station, will provide an update on plan implementation efforts.
For more information on the program, contact Ryan Gerlich, AgriLife Extension program specialist, College Station, at 979-458-4185. For more information on onsite sewage, visit the Onsite Sewage Facilities website.
This program is made possible by funding provided through a Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
