Reagan, Upton counties ag field day set May 11

Big Lake to host annual event featuring agriculture experts

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s offices in Reagan and Upton counties will host their annual Ag Day on May 11 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in Big Lake.

The cost is $10 and includes breakfast, snacks and a catered lunch sponsored by Ag Workers Insurance. Payment may be made at the door; registration will start at 8 a.m. The event will be at the AgriLife Extension office for Reagan County, 1430 North Ohio Ave.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available — two general and one integrated pest management.

Ag day topics and speakers

“This is an opportunity for our communities to come out and learn about the latest agriculture news and innovations from experts,” said Melissa Holt, AgriLife Extension, Reagan County. “We’ve got a great lineup of speakers this year on a wide range of topics.”

Topics will include rangeland management, predator management, pasture advice, market outlook, chemical uses and updates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, NRCS, and Farm Service Agency.

Expert speakers scheduled include Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension rangeland specialist, San Angelo; Jason Johnson, AgriLife Extension economist, Stephenville; Mike Bodenchuck, Texas Wildlife Services director, San Antonio; Jed Hruska, county executive director for Farm Service Agency, Brazos-Grimes counties; Kris Ede, Texas Farm Bureau field representative, Uvalde; Anthony Munoz, Texas Farm Bureau field representative, San Angelo; Russ Vanicek, NRCS district conservationist, Big Lake; and Jamie Halfmann, Corteva Agriscience territory manager, Garden City.
